Frequently Asked Questions

What is restoryation?

In an interview in Edge Effects in 2015, Robin Wall Kimmerer stated “Gary Nabhan has said, as we try to heal the earth with restoration, with ecological restoration, that’s well and good but what we really need to do is re-story-ation. We need to tell ourselves a different story about our relationship to place.” Restoryation is the process by which we reconnect to and orient ourselves through examining our relationship to place, to time, to society and others, and thereby reimagine our origin stories. At Tabi Po, we do this through ethnoautobiography.

What is ethnoautobiography?

Based on the work of Dr. Leny Strobel and Dr. Jürgen Werner Kremer, ethnoautobiography is “defined as creative writing (and/or oral presentation) that grounds itself in the ethnic, cultural, historical, ecological, and gender self-exploration of the author.” It is a resistance poetics and a practice in re-membering and re-calling of our “long body.” It is a method of decolonization, reclamation and cultural revalidation. As such, origin stories are sacred stories; they are the key to the healing of the Earth.

What is restorative poetry?

Restorative poetry refers to the use of poetry as a tool for healing, self-reflection, and restoration of one’s emotional well-being. It involves engaging with poems that resonate with individuals on a personal level, helping them explore and express their emotions, experiences and thoughts in a therapeutic manner. Restorative poetry can provide comfort, inspiration, and a sense of connection, allowing individuals to find solace and understanding through the power of language and verse.

What is the reading period for the literary magazine?

Good question! We have recently changed to an annual literary magazine due to constraints on time, health, and a small volunteer team. Please see the submission page for the latest details.

How do I become a featured reader for the reading series?
